Day 2 of NYFW Fall 2014

Our FashionMingle.net Media Team has wrapped another day of New York Fashion Week (NYFW) Coverage! For Day 2, Jane Kratochvil, Maryna Marston, and Melissa Shea headed to Pier 59 Studios to film behind-the-scenes footage of Tess Giberson’s Fall 2014 Collection. They interviewed the designer, captured b-roll footage and got the 411 from the hair and makeup teams. After wrapping up at Pier 59 Studios, Maryna headed to Lincoln Center to capture more MBFW runways, while Jane and Melissa headed to Trina Turk’s presentation at the Hudson Hotel. The Hudson Hotel is one of the new off-site venues for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. It’s quite a departure from the upscale Lincoln Center venue. Trina Turk’s show was held in the basement at the Hudson, which gave the presentation an urban and edgy atmosphere.

THE TRENDS

COLOR

Black and white remain the dominate color combination of choice for most designers, or all white and all black ensembles. Rebecca Minkoff focused on a beautiful shade of burgundy and even mixed in some pastels with her looks. Trina Turk’s collection had a variety of colors, but the presence of burgundy and dark green were still visible.

PRINTS

Nicole Miller showed us that she can mix prints better than anyone. Her collection was super edgy. Her addition of leather, fur, & studs to her abstract prints only enhanced the garments. Tess Giberson featured a forest motif print, stripes, & gingham. Trina Turk had a great variety of prints, but they were not as cohesive as Nicole Miller’s line.

STYLE, FIT, & SILHOUETTE

Everyone seems to be having fun with turtlenecks for the Fall, and not the normal turtlenecks that we are used to seeing. Tess Giberson on Day 2 and Nicholas K from Day 1 presented exaggerate turtlenecks with a ton of material around the neck. Nicole Miller returned to her signature shorter hem length for her skirts & dresses. The designers are DEFINITELY favoring asymmetric hemlines, whether it’s on vests as seen at Tess Giberson show, or skirts as seen at Rebecca Minkoff. Rebecca Minkoff also favored boxy silhouettes for her coats.

ACCESSORIES

What would a Rebecca Minkoff runway be without handbags? Afterall that’s how she got her start in the fashion business and she did not disappoint! From a cute chain-strapped cross-body to structured satchels, there was a bag for every women in that collection.

MAKEUP

It looks like the industry’s love for the dark lip will return this Fall. Almost every designer sent their models down the runway with a dark burgundy, purple, almost black lip.
