Amevie – trendy sun care company

Amevie sure sounds like a pretty name, but it packs a lot more meaning than just sounding nice! Amevie comes about from the latin word “amehvi”, meaning “Love Life”. Simply loving life? Sign us up! Amevie serves as a triple whammy in internet resources, as a super fun informative blog offering health tips regarding the sun and UV rays, without getting too medical on us, offering lots of fun inspiration and juicy tips about fashion, and safe fun in the sun. Not only is Amevie a pretty rich source of helpful info, but will very soon also serve as a platform for the company’s own brand of health-conscious sunglasses and sunscreens, which successfully balance health, beauty, and fashion, without sacrificing any of those three essentials.

Amevie is a super handy site to keep saved in your browser bookmarks; their articles are jam-packed with answers to those head-scratching questions about our health and how the sun’s rays work, while being extra accessible, intuitive and comprehensive. Reading the full details about these subjects from the more biology-heavy medical sources is a total bore, feels like school, and sometimes leaves us more confused than before. Browsing through some of their article titles, I noticed the added bonus of tips for travel too. These posts are full of little tricks and hacks to make traveling and keeping your skin, eyes etc. safe during your time abroad. So useful, right?!

Amevie doesn’t pull punches when it comes to busting industry myths about sunscreens and sunglasses, products that are supposed to protect us, but often don’t, despite having pretty demanding price tags. After all, who doesn’t want the knowledge toolkit to know which sunscreen, on a shelf stocked with tons of different brands that are all trying hard to sell, works best and isn’t feeding our skin cells unfriendly chemicals. If you don’t believe us, or are just feeling curious, see for yourself, and if you like what you see, share with your friends and family!

Pinterest and Fashion: 3 Pinteresting People

Pinterest is new domain for me but the concept is great because I love taking and looking at beautiful pictures. I haven’t gotten around to making my personal Pinterest account but in my time at Luevo I’ve come across a couple keepers to follow for when I do.

Here is a collection of Pinners who I love and some of my favourite boards from each:

Lizmarieblog.com

Liz Marie is a happily married 26 year old blogger and interior designer with really pretty and clean Pinterest boards. She is currently based in North Carolina with her husband, Mr. LMB and her shitzus Bella and Bear. You can check out her blog here but don’t forget to check out my favourite boards of hers, too. These include: Fashion Love for trendy street style outfits, All Things Beauty for great hair and makeup tips, and yummy food for delicious recipes that are sometimes even really healthy for you, what more could a girl ask for?

Pinteresting Pinner Blogger

Bewolf Fashion

Katia Nikolajew is a young entrepreneur who managed to turn her little side project into a respected online shopping destination called Bewolf Clothing . This is a great shop for well-crafted vintage and grunge apparel but Katia has also put together almost 70 Pinterest boards to inspire us fashionistas even further. Her style seems to be very edgy but some of her other styled boards include: Mini Fashionistas for the young ones at home, Boho//Fashion Inspo for effortlessly beautiful looks, and Prints//Fashion Inspo for those looking to add some flare to plain outfits. There are also plenty of other styled boards so make sure to take a look for yourself and get inspired.

Success Dress

Success Dress is a huge compilation of stylish and creative outfit ideas. If inspiration is what you’re looking for, make sure to check out these boards: Street Fashion for eye-catching street wear, Fashion Accessories for unique bags, jewelry and watches, and Footwear Obsession for shoes that are absolutely to die for. There are almost 40 other boards that also have beautiful fashions so don’t forget to take a look at her page for yourself and let us know which boards are your favourites.

Pinteresting Pinner Blogger

Pinterest is all about compiling everything you’ve ever wanted to be a part of your life into one page with tons of boards so it’s really important to find the right pinners to follow to make sure it stays the big source of inspiration that it currently is.

YouTube Vloggers to Watch (Part 2)

Welcome to part two of our compilation of YouTube vloggers we think you should subscribe to.

They started off by making silly videos in their bedrooms, moved on to making some money whenever someone clicked on the ads before their videos and now  they write books, have their own clothing labels, appear on television, attend red carpet events, win awards and much, much more. These are the most sought after YourTube vloggers with an interest in fashion, styling and beauty.

ShayMitchellOfficial

No, you’re not seeing things; this Pretty Little Liars TV star has recently started her own YouTube channel where she features her favourite outfits, workout routines, healthy recipes, etc. It’s no secret that Shay is absolutely gorgeous but did you know that she’s also incredibly fearless and stylish? She’s only uploaded 7 videos as of this post but in them you can clearly see her laid back but way cute clothes. Her style ranges from high class, lavish to styling, thrift finds and that’s why we love her.

Zoella280390

I’ve been subscribed to Zoe Sugg for as long as I had my current YouTube channel and am always impressed by the stylish outfits, great ideas and funny videos that she comes up with. Her career has advanced so much that she even wrote a book based on stories similar to her own called Girl Online . All her fans absolutely loved the book and I’m sure I will too once I’m allowed to open my Christmas presents! She’s also participating in Vlogmas  so check that out to see what she wears and gets up to on a daily basis this season.

vlogger

MacBarbie07

I  have been happily subscribed to Bethany Mota’s DIY projects, seasonal lookbooks and favourites since the early years of YouTube. If you recognize her name, it’s because she’s won awards, made it to Dancing With The Stars finale night and took the opportunity to launch her own clothing line  available at Aeropostale. Keep your eyes opened and you may see some more Youtubers making it big.

It just goes to show how you can do anything you put your mind to. You’ll never know what life’s going to throw at you so find your passion and and ride these waves we call life. Be bold fashionistas!

YouTube and Fashion: 5 Vloggers to Watch (Part 1)

Welcome, Luevo readers, to the world of YouTube that I’ve fallen so crazy in love with. It’s a video-sharing website for anyone and everyone looking for quick tips, do-it-yourself projects, video gameplays, tutorials, vlogs, unboxings, first impressions, music; really just any kind of content you could dream of.

The greatest thing about YouTube, in my opinion, is the sense of community that rises amongst Youtubers and their fans (or friends as most of them like to look at it). Their connection is so powerful that being a “Youtuber” has actually become something you can make a living off of because these young entrepreneurs have created names for themselves and essentially have the best job.

I am personally subscribed to over 150 great YouTube channels of all sorts but today we’d like to share with you our favourite fashion vloggers.

ClothesEncounters

Let’s start off with my latest subscription, Jenn Im. A new friend of mine introduced me to Jenn when we were discussing some of our personal favourites of the YouTube world. Jenn is very a vibrant and stylish, fashion vlogger who posts “lookbooks”, “monthly favourites”, “store hauls”, and other videos of those sorts. Her personal style tends to look chic, colourful and even edgy but you can find her featuring many different styles depending on what she decides to upload. Check out her latest video, a holiday gift guide for 2014.

Pixi2Woo

Meet Tanya Burr, the cutest little lady you ever did see. She is a beautiful, happily-married, woman who has an excellent sense of classy fashions. Along with the kinds of videos Jenn posts, she also uploads hair, makeup and cooking tutorials pretty often. I love her bubbly personality that she lets shine through in her latest Vlogmas series and the stunning apparel she picks out for events.

Don’t forget to subscribe to our newsletter to be the first to read part two of this series which will feature three more great fashion vloggers that we think you’d love as much as us!

Instagram and Fashion: 5 Emerging Instagrammers

There is no doubt that Instagram is one of the most popular photo-sharing platforms available to the masses. If you don’t know what Instagram is, the app that is available for your smartphone gives users the option to edit and share photos with quirky filters. Instagrammers’ latest masterpieces can be shared with their followers.

It has become a great way for fashionistas to showcase their style and inspire their followers to express themselves through the clothes they wear and the photos they share. Because of this, I have found some of my favorite Instagrammers to inspire Luevo readers.

Meet fashion blogger Pari Ehsan. One look at her Instagram feed and I was instantly entranced. Her photos exhibit beautiful pieces of artwork found in galleries and studios from all around the world alongside her alluring outfits, stunning makeup and elegant hairstyles. On her website you can read her admirable take on each design and even learn about her ensemble. It’s no wonder she has over 200K Instagram followers.

Paridust Instagram starFrom @paridust

Christina Caradona is fashion and lifestyle blogger based in New York City. Her feed is the perfect blend of citystyle meets avant-garde. Although her outfits are beyond good-looking, it is on her blog where you can actually find out what she is wearing in each photo plus gain exclusive know-how on the ways she keeps herself looking radiant and healthy. Her 135K friends on Instagram probably love her fashion sense as much as I do.

Troprouge Instagram starFrom @troprouge

Vintage lover, Steffy Degreff, is a happily married, doggy-momma who launched Steffy’s Pros and Cons  back in 2011. Her photos on Instagram are what originally caught my eye because they are so lively and colourful, not to mention, stylish. However it was her just as nicely-polished, blog that stole my heart with all its trendy posts and photos of her dog, Claude Pepper. Find out what Degreff is wearing at the bottom of each blog post. 51K followers is nothing to look past and this instagrammer is definitely on her way up.

Steffy instagram starFrom @steffyspandcs

This Instagrammer’s name is Bonnie Barton and her Instagram photos are some of the cutest I have seen. Almost every one of her posts has her signature hazy filter and her lucky 120K followers get to see some adorable cats, every once in a while. But what I loved the most were her charming outfits. I can tell she is a fan of floral and lace, but she always finds ways to switch it up with different prints or styles while maintaining that feminine approach. Learn what she is wearing from her blog,  Flashes of Style.

Flashesofstyle Instagram StarFrom @flashesofstyle

Last, but certainly not least, we meet “aliencreature”, a self-proclaimed martian who happens to have great style. Her metallic-purple hair is one of the things her followers admire most about her but when looking through her website, Alien Creaturex. it became clear that they love her edgy fashions as much as I. Although she is not an official fashion blogger, she definitely inspires her 320K followers to push the boundaries and take risks with the clothes they wear.

Taking a Dive into Hawaii ’s Fashion Scene

On the heels of national recognition of Hawaii’s ability to incubate designers into full-on style stars with Kini Zamora’s third place finish on Project Runway, Hawaii Fashion Month is set to make its own splash. A whole month dedicated to fashion in one area might seem like a lot but, all November long, a variety of events will take place such as the first-ever Honolulu Fashion Week, pop-up shops, panels and presentations. What’s even better is the backdrop, beautiful scenario and exquisite clothing that’s synonymous with Hawaii Fashion Month.

The month aims to bring attention to up-and-coming and stalwart designers making waves in the Hawaiian and worldwide fashion scene. Unlike other fashion weeks where runway shows are the main focus, Hawaii Fashion Month hones in on some of the most important people involved in the fashion industry today: the community. It goes without saying that bloggers have become some of the most important people in the fashion community; they help to get new designers names out to the public, and they give the world a bird’s eye view into fashion that they might not otherwise get. Hawaiian bloggers are sure to make a showing during Hawaiian Fashion Month. Here’s who we expect will pop up at various events:

Summer Shiigi of Summer Style

Summer is a stylist, personal shopper, blogger and all-around Renaissance woman by anyone’s standards. She’ll surely be out at various events throughout Hawaii Fashion Month. We can’t wait to see what she wears (and which events she styles).

Natalie Schack of Lei Chic Blog
Natalie is the associate editor of Lei Chic, a daily blog that posts about the latest Honolulu fashion news, deals, and trends. She’ll be covering events like the Honolulu Fashion Week launch event on Thursday, November 6.

Blogger2

Malie Moran of Hawaii Red Style
Hawaii Red Style is bringing street style shots and fashion news from the Hawaii beaches and streets from island to island. Malie Moran, Hawaii Red Style founder, recently co-wrote a book featuring the unique fashions of Honolulu. Wear your best street style bait to, and you may be featured in a blog post.

Honolulu Streetstyle

Not sure of what events to attend? Be sure to follow the bloggers we’ve highlighted here and also don’t be afraid to take a dip (or dive) into the Hawaiian fashion waters to experience all that the paradise has to offer when it comes to innovative style.

Meet the New Luevo Team!

The way a team plays as a whole determines its success. You may have the greatest bunch of individual stars in the world, but if they don’t play together, the club won’t be worth a dime.

SONY DSC

My name is Tianna and I’m 18 years old, living somewhere between Downtown Toronto and Oshawa. I can be found with my head buried in fashion magazines and blogs, all while being the Editor-in-Chief of Your Style Forecast, exploring the fresh new trends in terms of fashion and beauty. In my spare time, I enjoy learning everything there is to know about the latest models of the moment (mainly Jourdan Dunn & Maliaka Firth) and I posses  a deep inclination for the written word. Currently I am doing my summer co-op placement at Luevo and really look forward to sharing my blog posts with all of you. Enjoy my thoughts!

zoe

After having just finished her third year at Ivey Business School, Zoe is currently working with the Luevo team this summer. She is driven by her curiosity to learn  new things, expecially anything related to the fashion industry. If you have any questions of just want to chat, find her at zoe@leuvo.com!

One thing people don’t know about you: I love all types of dessert, but mostly the plain New York cheesecake

Your biggest fashion pet peeve: colour blocking using only brown and black

Your biggest fashion icon: Coco Rocha

3 things you can’t live without: my phone, music, family & friends

sara

This is Sara. Yes, without the H! Born and raised in Maple, ON. She just completed her third year at Brock University in the Business Communications (Honours) program. She is a self proclaimed social butterfly and coffee addict and will be leading Luevo’s PR and communications this summer.

One thing people don’t know about you: Most people do not know that I am allergic to extreme weather changes and I was “accidentally” wrapped in blue when I was born.

Your biggest fashion pet peeve: My biggest fashion pet peeve is when people combine more than one dominant pattern in a outfit.  Leopard print shoes and checkered pants do not complement each other!

Your biggest fashion icon: My biggest fashion icon is Lauren Conrad.  I have fallen in love with her simple but elegant look while showing the fashion world that sometimes less is more.

3 things you can’t live without: Three things I cannot live without are family, close friends and (sad but true) pizza.

sofie

Sofie is a second-year Marketing and Communications student at McGill University in the Desautels Faculty of Management. She loves all things marketing and fashion, and she’s thrilled to be working with the passionate and talented marketing team at Luevo this summer!

One thing people don’t know about you: I have NO sense of direction. I need a GPS to get anywhere!

Your biggest fashion pet peeve: Clashing colours.

Your biggest fashion icon: Ooh fashion icons – Emily Schuman from cupcakesandcashmere.com and Lauren Conrad!

3 things you can’t live without: Strawberries, coffee, and my two dogs, Cooper and Morgan

Bloggers Christmas Wish List

Christmas. That time of year when we secretly hope to receive everything we’ve been saving up for. As we get ready to eat as much as our stomachs can handle and open gifts we hope to see under the wrapping, we go through our mental Christmas wish list.

The wish list is synonymous with gift giving and finding that perfect gift. To make our gifts even more lovable and special we tend to make wish lists to help out those who are buying for us. With Christmas right around the corner we have compiled our own wish list from the bloggers here at Luevo.

Introducing Guest Blogger Bhreigh

Bhreigh, that name (my name) that easily rolls off your tongue but is almost impossible to spell. In rural Nova Scotia, I was born into a Gaelic family of six children. It was common knowledge where I grew up that I would eventually need to  leave my island for greener pastures. Twenty three years later, a mountain of dreams and hard work, I graduated from our local university with a BBA. Almost immediately, I booked a flight to Toronto to embark on the adventure of a lifetime. Leaving my life in the country was necessary if I wanted to work in fashion, and I was ready to leave. I wanted to work either as a fashion buyer or in advertising, but I was open to one of those undiscovered jobs that could lead me in one of those directions (a wardrobe stylist for example, that looks like so much fun!).

After some heavy networking, I began working with Luevo in Spring 2013 to satisfy my need for expression and fashion. Before that, I was working with luxury handbags, which did not quench my thirst for all things design. Around the same time I started with Luevo, I began interning at an advertising agency, which eventually lead to full time working with a fashion brand. All of my small town dreams finally pieced together.

Picture 16

Now that I’m becoming more established here in Toronto, I’m finding myself lusting after feminine pieces that are simple, chic and even somewhat androgynous. If you see me walking around Toronto, I’m the girl who is maybe a little too tall to be sporting such high heels. I’m likely in my favourite oversized light grey trapeze coat and wearing my favourite espresso satchel. I’d like to say my style is feminine without looking overtly girly and simple without being bland and boring. My next pieces to my collection will be more independent, structured and interesting than the things I have right now. I would like to own a higher quality black flat, leather duffle bag, higher quality bangles and another pair of fashionable fun, boots.

I’ve lived in Toronto for just over one year, and it’s been a dream. Definitely lots of ups and downs, but I can finally call this place my home. I have an endless supply of fashion to lust over, places to wear fun pieces and opportunities to help change the face of Canadian fashion.
