If you are like me and still trying to squeeze in some fun in the sun before the summer ends, then hurry! With little time left and whether or not we’ve been working on getting flat abs, it’s okay because the trend this summer is retro swimwear, which means high waist bathing suit bottoms! Lucky us, right?
Summer has gone retro! The high waist style is back, which is great for those who are curvy and it’s great for those who desire more of an hour glass shape.
Tip: A high waist bottom that has a pattern or some color blocking is great when you want to give the illusion of the hour glass shape. So retro swimwear this summer is a win-win situation!
Enjoy your fun in the sun with confidence ladies! Show off your rockin’ body while being on trend in retro swimwear.

Kimonos are traditionally seen in Asian culture – mainly in Japan and China. However fashion has adapted the kimono into something totally wearable for everyday. Kimonos are amazing and a great staple piece for your wardrobe. I highly recommend this wonderful piece of garment. You can wear them all seasons too – Summer, Fall, Winter, Spring. They are always doable. Stores like Forever 21, CharlotteRusse, and Marshalls are carrying these fashion pieces nowadays – don’t miss out. Here are some great ways to rock a kimono this Summer.
1. At The Beach
Not only is it an amazing piece to add to your wardrobe – you also can wear it as a cover up at the beach. Different and definitely more fashionable then your Dad’s pick t-shirt you held hostage to wear as a coverup at the beach. It’s lightweight, easy to pack, and you look cute. Add a flower headband and you literally could be at Coachella.
2. Day Time Attire
A kimono can add some color and flair to your jean shorts and white tank look. It adds a different take on your style then say, a statement necklace might do. It’s a way to add color to a seemingly boring outfit, without being sweltering hot in the Summer. It’s perfect for those days you’re running late and still need to look presentable.
3. Night Time Getup
Black on black outfit with a pop of color in the kimono for a night time out with your girls is perfection. You will be comfortable – which is key – and also look fashionable, which is also key. It’s lightweight, as mentioned before. That’s a big plus because it allows you to rock it in a bar or a club without being too hot, having to take it off, and ultimately loosing it. We’ve all lost a sweater or two while out, right? Just me? Okay. Either way – the kimono is a perfect outfit choice for nights out.
The kimono is a new style and something I can see lasting for many years to come. It’s easy to wear, and makes for a different look than you may normally go for. What do you think? Would you rock a kimono? If so, how? Let us at Luevo know in the comments below!

We’ve all seen them – backless tops (and dresses…) have been running the runway and stores everywhere lately. I mean sometimes it’s hard to tell if the person in front of you is even wearing a shirt, because all you see is back. All jokes aside – cut outs have been a major staple piece to this seasons trends and it’s also been very hard for ladies everywhere to figure out exactly how to wear ’em!
No one wants their bra hanging out, and sometimes the backless look is what makes the outfit, so a bandeau hanging out just doesn’t do the shirt any justice. No worries ladies — where there is a will, there is a way. Here are some ways that you can rock the backless look, without showing everyone what kind of bra you decided to wear that day.
1. Sticky Boob
Sticky boob is the answer to our prayers. It makes letting your back be exposed ten times more comfortable, and easier of course. It’s pretty much like wearing a bra, just without the actual straps and all the hooks that come along with all your standard bras. Some people get nervous wearing sticky boob, because what if it falls off, doesn’t support me enough, etc. but sometimes, it’s the risk you’re gonna have to be willing to take!
2. Bandaids…I’m not kidding
I’ll never forget when I was getting ready to go to my Senior Dinner Dance in high school and had no idea what to wear for my bra, because my dress had cut outs. My mom suggested bandaids and I actually laughed out loud. I didn’t do it but looking back at it, I should’ve. Since growing up, I’ve used this trick a few things when wearing more revealing tops and dresses and each time it has worked flawlessly. Of course, taking them off isn’t the best feeling, but it’s great knowing you can rock these sexy tops, without a care in the world!
3. Let Them Free
Of course, this option is not plausible for all but for you small chested women out there, and maybe with the right top for you larger chested women, remember going without a bra or any sort of protection of your girls is an option. You don’t have to wear a bra! Do what makes you feel comfortable and allows you to wear what you want to wear. Of course, with some shirts you’d be cutting it close to a Janet Jackson style nip-slip, if you didn’t rock a bra, or at least one of the two options above, but in some cases you don’t need to worry about how to protect the girls! Remember that.
Of course, like many trends, this one may come and go. However for now it’s really, really cute, but also really, really difficult to plan how to wear it. These options above are just some of what I use when I’m in a sticky situation, but aren’t the only ones.
What do you do when your shirt requires a little more skin to be exposed? Or your dress has a huge cut out? Let us know in the comments below!

What we need are quality items that will stand the test of time and look great. These essentials will definitely get you through the event filled summer months. A Sun Hat; Whether you plan on spending those seemingly endless days touring new territory or lounging poolside, you’ll definitely need one of these. Your sun hat will keep you safe from the sun and you’ll look great.
Midi Skirts and Maxi Dresses; Not just any maxi dress, but one that is convertible. For during the day, pair it with sandals and the classic updo. When you get that last-minute event invite, throw on your coveted pair of heels and let your hair down. Instantly, you’re ready for whatever lies ahead.
Print; Add dimension and colour to your wardrobe with prints, specifically print pants. It’s an ongoing summer trend that shows no signs of stopping. Print shoes, dresses, and even swimwear. There’s an endless selection of ways to rock this trend.
Stay tuned for part 2 of our summer fashion must-haves! What are some of your summer essentials?
It was an absolute honour and pleasure to be invited at Sid Neigum‘s fashion show as part of Toronto’s recent WMCFW festivities. The collection surpassed my expectations, simple but elegant and it still had the shock factor, this time found in the choice of boots!
I really enjoyed the geometry of Sid’s designs, as well as the peek-a-boo cut-outs and the overall clean look. I noticed a very limited palette of colours, but that made the collection even more so elegant. And of course, everyone was buzzing about those boots as if the models were walking out of a sci-fi movie. Surprisingly, but there were no casualties among the gracious models as they paraded down the runway. Speaking of the models, I couldn’t help but notice how beautiful they all looked! With their angel-like faces, perfect and simplistic make up they were picture-perfect!
Everyone came out to see Sid’s latest collection, including celebrities such as model Stacey McKenzie. Overall, I think it was a great mix of people, and I really enjoyed the vibe of excitement and anticipation.
I hope you enjoy our exclusive photography of the show. Remember if you want to use these you need to get permission from framestopper.ca.

After moving from Seattle to Los Angeles, fashion designer Bri Seeley knew that she had to do something different to make her brand stand out. And with that, an idea was born— give the fashion world’s loyal followers exactly what they want: the chance to own it first.
“It just makes sense. If someone sees something on the runway, they should be able to buy it immediately,” says Seeley. “Fashion weeks weren’t created for normal people, they were created for buyers. But nowadays, they’ve become a chic and hip thing for people to do.”
Harnessing the buzz from LA Fashion Week, Seeley will be teaming up with Luevo to launch a 30-day campaign to raise pre-orders for her spring/summer 2014 collection. During the runway show, photos of Seeley’s entire collection will be shared on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, with a direct link to purchase any item from the collection exclusively on Luevo.
While larger brands like Top Shop and BCBG have incorporated pre-ordering systems into their shows, Seeley is one of the few independent designers to do so. After launching a successful crowdfunding campaign last year for her Style Fashion Week show, she realized how effective it could be.
“Last time I raised more than I had anticipated. I was giving out handwritten thank you notes to anyone who gave me money. This time it’s better— they get product with it,” says Seeley. “If I could sell out my whole collection before I go onto manufacturing, that would be an ideal world.”
With her spring/summer “Silence Collection” ready to hit the runway during Phoenix Fashion Week on Oct. 4 and LA Fashion Week on Oct. 10, Seeley is preparing to unveil a new line up of covet-worthy pieces reflective of her modern feminine design aesthetic.
“I didn’t move to LA to be like every other fashion designer here,” she says. “I’ve had a lot of people come up to me say, ‘We don’t understand why we can’t buy your stuff as soon as you put it on the runway.’ This is a good way to give people that opportunity. It’s instant gratification.”

Fresh off the four-day whirlwind of Montréal Fashion Week, it’s impossible to shake the anticipation for spring/summer 2014’s best pieces and trends. Even more so, it’s always exciting to see what Canada’s emerging designers have to offer – and what better launching pad than the MFW runway? From Sept. 3 to Sept. 6, over 20 designers unveiled their collections. We’ve picked five emerging designers that stood out among the rest this season.
Caroline Constas
Montréal-born, New York City-based designer Caroline Constas proves that a jet set lifestyle can be a major inspiration. After enrolling at Parsons The New School for Design and debuting her line in 2012, Constas experienced a meteoric rise to success. Her spring/summer 2014 collection is inspired by her travels to Greece and France. Using European fabrics and detailed finishes, Constas delivers impeccably tailored separates that beg to be worn on a Mediterranean jaunt.
Pedram Karimi
Pedram Karimi first caught the fashion world’s attention when he won second place in Telio’s Breakthrough Designer Competition during Montréal Fashion Week in 2011. Fast forward two years later and you’ll find him still garnering praise for modern designs reflective of his diverse background. This season, Karimi opened Montréal Fashion Week with the launch of his fusion line, PEDRAM. Inspired by the playful characteristics of youth, the collection features Karimi’s talent for creating fluidity, movement and volume.
Mélissa Nepton
Since being crowned the winner of the Target Emerging Designer Award in February, all eyes are on Mélissa Nepton’s next move. While her exclusive line for Target Quebec drew inspiration from the 1960’s, Nepton’s signature spring/summer 2014 collection turns the focus on Japanese culture. Exploring both traditional and contemporary elements of Tokyo, Nepton’s “Pikuseru” collection delivers pixelated prints and a playful approach to Japanese-inspired silhouettes.
UNTTLD
Praised for bringing a modern twist to the femme fatal, Montréal -based designers Simon Bélanger and José Manuel St-Jacques can be counted on for daring dresses and structured staples. After interning and working with renowned Canadian designer Denis Gagnon, the duo went on to form their brand in 2011. This season, UNTTLD uses mesh, strategic draping and a black and white print that was created from blown-up images of cigarette butts.
Martin Lim
Following the launch of their label in 2010 and Mercedes-Benz Start-up Competition win in 2011, design duo Danielle Martin and Pao Lim have continued to capture the hearts of strong striding city girls everywhere. The Central Saint Martins graduates refined their design skills while working with renowned international designers like Christian Lacroix. It’s no surprise that their latest spring/summer collection delivers the goods while blending seaside elegance with urban comfort.

NYFW Spring 2014 – Day 6 we were all back in the tent except for Melissa’s offsite jaunt to shoot ICB in the afternoon. We covered lots of shows today for the trend report and for media footage. Maryna and Shalanda headed backstage at Badgley Mischka for behind-the-scenes footage and ran into John Legend and his girlfriend Chrissy Teigen. Backstage at Alon Livne, Arielle interviewed the namesake, Israeli designer, who started designing when he was 17. We covered backstage for Zang Toi, and wrapped up the evening attending the last show at 9pm by Fashion Shenzhen.
FIT/STYLE: A trend is a fad, a craze, the latest hotness, and a style that has been trending all week has been longer length in skirts in different fits: A-Line, Pencil, Drop-Waist, Assymetricals, and more!! There was very little deviation from this trend on Day 6. Jenny Packham, Badgely Mischka, & Naeem Khan sent feminine silhouettes down the runway displaying the variety in skirt styles. Alon Livne sent down warrior/Amazon princess inspired garments, that looked like each model was wearing an embellished breast plate and ready to go to battle! I loved it!
COLOR: As mentioned yesterday, more and more color is appearing, but the overall theme of whites, pastels, & other neutrals has still been the focus. Naeem Khan sent garments down the runway with a beige base, but colorful appliques:
EVENING WEAR/OCCASION: There was a prevalence of evening wear gowns showcased on Day 6 of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. Almost every designer sent down a jaw-dropping stunner. A lot of fluidity in the gowns, with lots of movement. Long cape trains, and lots of fabric that billowed in the wind.
Day 4 was crazy as ever, just like the other 3 days. Our team went offsite to Chelsea to see Ricardo Seco’s Spring 2014 collection at Eyebeam studios. Mara and Arielle captured interviews with Joanna Mastroianni, Ricardo Seco and Melissa interviewed Jackie Fraser-Swan, the designer behind the Emerson label. Emerson was the last show of the night at 9pm and for celebration of our work, we went out on the town! Well not really, we went to the rooftop bar at INC48Hotel called The Press Lounge (How fitting for our media group), and then went for late night eats at Market Diner in Hell’s Kitchen. Needless to say it was a late night for us, but we love to give you the trends for the day…even if they are a little late :-p.
COLOR: Color seems to be popping up more and more as the days of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week pass us by. By default Custo Barcelona’s runway had a bunch of color due to his use of very busy, colorful, graphic prints. Joanna Mastroianni, being the master of evening gowns that she is, sent gorgeous gowns of color down the runway.
FIT: The continuing movement away from tighter than tight garments is evident in the long A-line skirts and drop-waist dresses presented by DVF. Both DVF and Custo Barcelona showed their love for the popular trend of the week: Crop Tops. Custo presented a lot of Box-shaped jacket, moving away from the typical fitted trench-coats seen in the Spring.
Custo Barcelona / Photographer Maryna Marston – www.squareearthstudio.com
PRINTS: Black and white prints, were the main focus of DVF’s runway, along with some graphic prints. Joanna Mastroianni opened her show with a bunch of fun black and white patterns too! Custo’s collection was almost all prints in all kinds of designs and colors with a heavy focus on mixing prints.
FABRICS: Custo Barcelona sent a lot of metallics down the runway bringing the shine and shimmer that we’ve been missing from Days 1-3. Woven fabrics made an appearance on his runway like mesh.
ACCESSORIES: Visors are no longer just for tennis players! Custo Barcelona sent fun visors down the runway in the same materials as the garments. His collection of colorful, Mix-print shoes will be favored by any girl, looking to express her artistic side this Spring! Vivienne Tam would love to see the socks and sandals trend return, as a few of her models rocked that trend from a few seasons back on the runway.

With the days getting shorter, it’s almost time to say goodbye to summer and embrace the best of fall fashion. While crop tops and beachy maxis can be packed away for next year, transitioning into autumn doesn’t have to involve a complete wardrobe overhaul. Pairing a few on-trend pieces with your existing staples can easily bring you up to speed and prepare you for fall’s most anticipated trends. This season, we’re introduced to a new colour palette filled with shades of grey, rich jewel tones and high-contrast black and white pairings. Take a look at some of the key trends and must-have pieces for the summer to fall transition season.
Oversized
One of the most notable trends for fall/winter 2013 is oversized outerwear. Thanks to designers like Céline, Carven and Alexander Wang, roomy coats and thick, chunky knits are a go-to choice for cooler days.
While transitioning from summer to fall, bundle up with Toronto-based DylaniumKnits’ fall line of statement accessories in burgundy, cream and black. “My absolute favourite piece is a super heavy long scarf with fringe on either end,” says designer Dylan Uscher. “It’s huge, creates such a statement and help keeps the wearer very warm. This particular wool works on everyone.”
For a casual yet luxe look, opt for Seattle-based designer Paychi Guh’s Two Way Cozy Cardigan in a versatile geometric print, which can easily be paired with Fluevog ankle booties and a Franco Vernica Milano Leather Tote.
1. Paychi Guh Two Way Cozy Cardigan 2. DylaniumKnits Rowen Mobius Scarf 3. Franco Vernica Milano Leather Tote 4. Fluevog Garden of Enjoyment Ankle Booties
Punk Accents
Coinciding with the Met’s Costume Institute punk exhibit, designers like Givenchy, Rodarte and Moschino have shown the fashion world the chic side of plaid, leather and punk-inspired embellishments. If you’re not ready to go all out with grommets and studs, try to subtly incorporate punk elements into your wardrobe with leather accents and mixed metal accessories. Seattle-based Joanna Morgan’s Talisman collection serves up bold Krystallino rings in brass and sterling silver that can complement a plaid statement skirt.

Layering
Practical and chic, layering is a no-brainer for autumn. This season, multi-length pieces layered the right way can create an effortlessly cool ensemble. ”When you transition from snowy streets to hot bar or restaurants I would love you to be wearing one of my silk separates under that coat,” says New York City-based designer Alex Koutny. In unpredictable weather, start with a base that’s versatile, such as a washed silk black tank. Complete the look by layering a pair of Skinny Sweats’ leggings with a tunic and a Mackage leather motto jacket.

Black & White
Black and white combinations have been trending all year and are still going strong for fall/winter 2013. Update the look this fall by opting for a black and white dress in a geometric print, such as a Pink Tartan Hexagon Dress. For a menswear-inspired look, embrace a tuxedo style ensemble by pairing Joeleen Torvick’s black and white shirt with an on-trend pair of tuxedo pants by Skinny Sweats.
