Kicking It With Kimonos

Kimonos are traditionally seen in Asian culture – mainly in Japan and China. However fashion has adapted the kimono into something totally wearable for everyday. Kimonos are amazing and a great staple piece for your wardrobe. I highly recommend this wonderful piece of garment. You can wear them all seasons too – Summer, Fall, Winter, Spring. They are always doable. Stores like Forever 21, Charlotte Russe, and Marshalls are carrying these fashion pieces nowadays – don’t miss out. Here are some great ways to rock a kimono this Summer.

1. At The Beach

kimono (2)

Not only is it an amazing piece to add to your wardrobe – you also can wear it as a cover up at the beach. Different and definitely more fashionable then your Dad’s pick t-shirt you held hostage to wear as a coverup at the beach. It’s lightweight, easy to pack, and you look cute. Add a flower headband and you literally could be at Coachella.

2. Day Time Attire

A kimono can add some color and flair to your jean shorts and white tank look. It adds a different take on your style then say, a statement necklace might do. It’s a way to add color to a seemingly boring outfit, without being sweltering hot in the Summer. It’s perfect for those days you’re running late and still need to look presentable.

3. Night Time Getup

kimono

Black on black outfit with a pop of color in the kimono for a night time out with your girls is perfection. You will be comfortable – which is key – and also look fashionable, which is also key. It’s lightweight, as mentioned before. That’s a big plus because it allows you to rock it in a bar or a club without being too hot, having to take it off, and ultimately loosing it. We’ve all lost a sweater or two while out, right? Just me? Okay. Either way – the kimono is a perfect outfit choice for nights out.

The kimono is a new style and something I can see lasting for many years to come. It’s easy to wear, and makes for a different look than you may normally go for. What do you think? Would you rock a kimono? If so, how? Let us at Luevo know in the comments below!

Jumpsuits Are Back Like Never Before!

Jumpsuits (also known as rompers) are one of this season’s BIGGEST trends! Who doesn’t love the idea of being comfortable and chic at the same time? The jumpsuit allows us to show off our silhouette, which looks good for all shapes and sizes. From the runway to the red carpet, we love all the diversity and types of jumpsuits. Who would’ve thought the “adult onesie” would get all this attention? In case you’ve been living under a rock, I’ve got you covered. Here are some great summer looks to try:

white jumpsuit

embellishment jumpsuit

Never be afraid of a little embellishment

Embellishment on almost anything enhances the look. So, why not try it on a jumpsuit? It’s a built in accessory.

Cut it out

A cut out on a jumpsuit will automatically turn it into an outfit that you can wear on date night or a girl’s night out. Cut outs are on trend this season and gives the jumpsuit an instant “sexy” factor.

Work it out

Throwing on a blazer or cardigan instantly makes the jumpsuit work appropriate. If you’re meeting the ladies for drinks after, take off the blazer and it turns into a night outfit.

Show some leg

Jumpsuits are great for summer because they are light material and they also come in shorts. If you want to have brunch or head to the beach, a shorts jumpsuit is the way to go.

Put your back into it

One of my favourites is the jumpsuit that shows some back cleavage. It’s great for date night when you want to give off a classy, yet sexy, vibe. It’s conservative in the front and party in the back; no harm in that!

back out romper

So whatever jumpsuit you try, make sure you own at least one. Remember to get the silhouette effect, a simple belt cinched around the waist will compliment your figure. A jumpsuit is light, comfortable and chic at the same time; as well as a life saver when you don’t know what to wear in the morning. Add a nice stiletto and you are red carpet ready with your jumpsuit!

Throwbacks Are A Comeback!

Lately the fashion world has been all about the throwbacks.  From crop tops, jean jackets, harem pants, and more, trends from the 80’s and 90’s have officially made their way back into our lives. The atmosphere around us kind of looks like an episode of Saved By the Bell and Boy Meets World put together!  It’s times like these that make a person regret giving away that piece of clothing they thought they would never wear again.

All of the 90’s babies like me remember the era of the Spice Girls and Aaliyah, where bearing ones midriff was all the rage.  I think the crop top is here to stay for a long while! There are so many different styles, prints, and colours to choose from these days that you can easily mix and match and make this style your own.  Whether you are going for something elegant and refined, or completely grunged out, there is a crop top out there for everyone.

The ever lovely Harem pant, or “Hammer Pant” as I like to call them, are definitely a go to trend for the summer as well.  The great thing about this trend is that they are all about comfort as well as style.  They are basically a fancy pair of sweatpants if you really think about it!

unnamed (3)

The final stand out trend that has made a comeback is plaid.  Flannel plaid shirts have definitely become a go to accessory these days.  All kinds of celebrities can be seen rocking their favourite denim shorts with a plaid shirt tied around their waist.  It’s the perfect look to choose if you want to spice up your outfit in a fast and easy way.  Just pick up one of your dads old shirts and get ready to grunge it up.

I guess the moral we should all learn is that style is what you make of it.  Wear what you love and always think twice about what your chucking out of your closet. You just might be throwing out a gem that is sure to make a comeback!

The Perfect Fashion Investments

When I hear the word investment, I always think of what’s in the bank, what shares you’re buying and what your net worth is. I’ve never associated fashion and investments together. They just don’t seem to fit together. I used to think that fashion was all about how many clothes you can fit in your closet. I didn’t think of the quality of the clothing; just the quantity. I always find myself donating clothes after only 3 months. Why? Well, because the clothes I bought started looking like rags and were not suitable for wear any more. A woman on the subway heard me talking to a friend about my frustration of how my clothes don’t last and she started lectured on fashion investments.

IMG_5269

She told me, “It’s better to spend a few more dollars and have less but good quality clothing than spending less and throwing our more.” I then realized that she’s right. I thought I was saving money by buying really cheap clothing, but then in reality, I spent more. As my style started to change, I saw myself buying more sophisticated pieces and keeping them longer.

In the investment world, there are the good investments and the bad ones. What are good fashion investments? Well, according to Leandra Medine’s mother, “Invest your money on shoes and handbags as you can improvise the others through meagre means.” Is this good advice on fashion investments? I agree with her. Clothing usually goes on sale but bags and shoes are rarely found on sales racks. I always put more money into buying a pair of shoes that I know will last longer and is comfortable to use on any given day. Handbags, or any bags in general, are also great fashion investments. A good bag can last you a long time. Proof of this is my mothers TOD’s handbag that she loves so much. She uses it everyday and it hasn’t given up on her.

main_image-2-473-66-tote-bags-tods

Overall, it’s not bad to wear expensive clothing, like Chanel and YSL. At the same time, clothing wears down quicker than a bag or shoe. Buy a good pair of shoes or a bag for the full price and get clothing when they’re on sale. Also, when buying clothing make sure that they are not the current seasons trend. Seasonal clothing (clothes that are on trend during that season, but never goes through to the next year) always lack usability when the season changes. Buy classics and focus on fashion investments. Get clothing you know you can mix and match, and are also comfortable to wear.

Women’s Trends For Men

In the world of fashion, the women are always the versatile ones. Why? Well, this is because they can turn men’s clothes into their own by just incorporating different elements from women’s trends. They are able to walk down the street with their boyfriend’s shirt with just a short pant and that is a great ensemble already. Being a blogger I have read quite a lot of blogs that feature men’s clothes translated to women’s and have not read anything that is the other way around.  Now, a lot of you guys might already be saying “Is he crazy? What women’s clothes can he translate to men’s? How is he going to do that?” And to tell you as I came up with the idea of writing this… I knew I was digging my own grave and that if this came up with nothing then too bad for me.

blog-love-shoes-midi-skirts-inspirações02

Now… women have a lot of clothing to play with. There are different types of skirts; tanks, and shirts and so much more that can be put on. You girls have it all. Men, we only have shorts, long pants, short sleeves, long sleeves, tank, and shirts. Now, isn’t that unfair? I came up with the brilliant idea of taking women’s clothing and using them for the purpose of dressing men. (And no, not drag queen dressing!)

Imagine a guy with short shorts, a cropped tank not to cropped but just above the belly button with a cardigan wrapped around the waist. Weird, isn’t it? But if it was a woman wearing it, she would look cool.

If we take a trend instead of actual womenswear, we are able to see something better looking. One trend that seems to be popular with women is denim. Denim is worn by everyone, not just women. However, women started looking for ways that they can actually wear it at night (as a night piece). If guys were to follow this trend they would look cool in a bar, but not at a black tie occasion. Women can wear denim dresses and men can wear denim jackets to replace their formal ones. Pair it with tight or straight cut trousers and just a white button down shirt, semi-undone from the chest to the neck.

Another trend is wearing pink. Quite a lot of men are still sticking to the motto that pink is for girls. However, you can wear pink with blue jeans, or blue shorts, black shoes and white belt. You sir, will be good to go.

One great trend that seem to be popping up again is grunge. Females now have the term glam-grunge (or grunge gone glam). If you think of grunge boys, they are not the most fashionable of the group. But if the guys put two opposite things together, then they might have that glam-grunge to them. Semi-skinny jeans (or skinny) with a formal shirt, topped with a leather jacket, paired with black formal shoes. Too much?

denim-shorts-for-men-2013

Men can pull things women pull off really well. A trend that they pulls off really great is the mini-skirt trend. Men don’t have mini-skirts but we now do have short shorts (slightly shorter short pants just above the knee or a little bit more). Pair that with Toms, a cool short sleeve button down shirt, and then finish it off with a trench coat.

This is all about understanding trends that women enjoy but men can also explore. Why be stuck to what the norm says if you could be a little bit Gaga-esque?

Bringing Sexy Back – How To Wear a Backless Top

#trendwatch backless trendbackless shirt post 4

We’ve all seen them – backless tops (and dresses…) have been running the runway and stores everywhere lately. I mean sometimes it’s hard to tell if the person in front of you is even wearing a shirt, because all you see is back. All jokes aside – cut outs have been a major staple piece to this seasons trends and it’s also been very hard for ladies everywhere to figure out exactly how to wear ’em!

No one wants their bra hanging out, and sometimes the backless look is what makes the outfit, so a bandeau hanging out just doesn’t do the shirt any justice. No worries ladies — where there is a will, there is a way. Here are some ways that you can rock the backless look, without showing everyone what kind of bra you decided to wear that day.

backless shirt post 3

1. Sticky Boob

Sticky boob is the answer to our prayers. It makes letting your back be exposed ten times more comfortable, and easier of course. It’s pretty much like wearing a bra, just without the actual straps and all the hooks that come along with all your standard bras. Some people get nervous wearing sticky boob, because what if it falls off, doesn’t support me enough, etc. but sometimes, it’s the risk you’re gonna have to be willing to take!

2. Bandaids…I’m not kidding

I’ll never forget when I was getting ready to go to my Senior Dinner Dance in high school and had no idea what to wear for my bra, because my dress had cut outs. My mom suggested bandaids and I actually laughed out loud. I didn’t do it but looking back at it, I should’ve. Since growing up, I’ve used this trick a few things when wearing more revealing tops and dresses and each time it has worked flawlessly. Of course, taking them off isn’t the best feeling, but it’s great knowing you can rock these sexy tops, without a care in the world!

backless shirt post

3. Let Them Free

Of course, this option is not plausible for all but for you small chested women out there, and maybe with the right top for you larger chested women, remember going without a bra or any sort of protection of your girls is an option. You don’t have to wear a bra! Do what makes you feel comfortable and allows you to wear what you want to wear. Of course, with some shirts you’d be cutting it close to a Janet Jackson style nip-slip, if you didn’t rock a bra, or at least one of the two options above, but in some cases you don’t need to worry about how to protect the girls! Remember that.

Of course, like many trends, this one may come and go. However for now it’s really, really cute, but also really, really difficult to plan how to wear it. These options above are just some of what I use when I’m in a sticky situation, but aren’t the only ones.

What do you do when your shirt requires a little more skin to be exposed? Or your dress has a huge cut out? Let us know in the comments below!

Florals for Spring and Summer

The saying goes, April showers bring May flowers. As the days get warmer, get ready to start seeing more florals. While there is nothing new about the feminine trend, the style was serious on the runway and got a major update for the new season. The trend was seen on almost every runway and has been transformed into red carpet looks. Look around and you will find florals on everything from shoes to blazers. Florals make anything look chic, feminine, and fabulous.

Florals? For Spring? Groundbreaking. – Miranda Priestly, The Devil Wears Prada
This response will live on, but will continue to be proven wrong time and time again. It’s time to start embracing florals, seeing as the trend is showing no signs of going anywhere. Print dresses, shoes, swimwear, and even accessories. There’s an endless selection of ways to rock this trend.

What’s a better way to say goodbye to the dark spring days than stepping into bright floral outfits? If you’re the type to not usually wear florals, ease into the trend. Start by carrying a floral clutch or opt for a pair of floral shoes, if you’re daring. Like the flowers around you, slowly blossom into the trend. Before you know it, you’ll be embracing the floral trend with all the items you already have in your closet.

To make florals look modern and chic, pair simple outfits with an eye catching floral pieces. The bold floral colours will pop when paired with a simple white or neutral item and some candy-coloured accessories. To avoid looking too over done, limit your accessories.

tumbln-street-style-floral-jacket-white-skorts

You almost can’t go wrong when it comes to embracing this trend. Floral dresses scream summer and warm weather. They’re feminine and can be dressed up and made edgy. Pair it with neutral jewelry and shoes. The dress will speak for itself and get all the attention.

Floral dresses give off a fun summer vibe and can be worn anywhere and for just about any occasion. Not sure about buying that floral dress and want to stick to a mainly casual and simple look? A floral jacket or blazer will instantly transform basic white blouse and skirt combo into a stylish look.

7172107912_6f1789479d_z1

Don’t go for the head-to-toe floral look. All those basic wardrobe essentials you already own (classic white shirt) can be worn with florals. Pair a floral top with a pair of white pants and a basic bag. All the attention will be on your top. For a more formal look (for work) a white blouse and standard purse will tone down the bold colours of a floral skirt. When in doubt, neutrals will always be safest.

Enjoy and embrace the floral trend for spring and summer. It’s all about having fun with fashion. This is probably why the floral trend is one that is here to stay.
